The pieces of furnitured here were made for articles commissioned by Good Woodworking magazine.  Some of the pieces are for sale, and are available from various galleries. Please enquire directly with the galleries, the details of which are alongside the furniture descriptions.



This cupboard featured in Good Woodworking issue 197 (February 2008) and the brief was for a piece of furniture in the Modern style.  My design is based on a section of an aircraft wing and is made almost entirely of birch ply with American walnut highlights.

Size:         860mm wide x 780mm high x 300mm deep

This cabinet featured in Good Woodworking issue 198 (March 2008).  Based on the early Japanese merchant chests, it has been updated to provide storage for over 300 CD's.

The carcase is made of American oak and the drawer fronts are of cedar.



Size:   770mm wide x 1000mm high x 360 mm deep




Featured in Good Woodworking issue 200 (May 2008), the inspiration for this table is the world's first iron bridge in Shropshire.


Size:  1200 mm long x 580 mm wide x 520 mm high

The table top is made of American ash veneered board, trimmed in American walnut.  The legs, which are made to look like rivetted box sections, are made of oak with walnut detai.  The arches are also made of walnut.


Featured in Good Woodworking issue 202 (July 2008).  Six drawer chest in American cherry.  The chest is decorated in map-inspired themes, such as a marquetry map on the top panel, compass roses on the side panels, and scale bars on the drawer fronts.  The drawers will hold A4 size sheets





Size:  600 mm high x 340 mm wide x 250 mm deep.

Featured in Good Woodworking issue 204 (September 2008)  Made as a wall cabinet but could be sat on a cupboard.

The cabinet is finished in American walnut veneer.

Featured in Good Woodworking issue 206  (November 2008)

The shape of this cabinet is based on an Egyptian pylon, the tapered towers that formed the gateway to Egyptian temples.  Is has been built as a spice cabinet but could  be used ofr mmany other purposes.

Made of maple with walnut decoration,  The emblem on the front panel is based on the ancient Egyptian god Horos, who was often depicted as a hawk.


Size:  600 mm wide x 500 mm high x 150 mm deep.

(December 2008)

Based on early Indian chests, this piece has influences from classic Indian architecture.
Made mainly of iroko, with the decorative panels made of teak veneer and stained beech.

Size:  700mm long x 390 mm wide x 500 mm tall



The chest has a small opening lid and could be used as a work box, or a small seat if fitted with a cushion

Inspired by the strong rectilinear architectural style of Frank Lloyd Wright, this slim hall table, made in American cherry, has overtones of his famous Prairie house designs

Made in American maple, this desk has the simple but elegant lines of the classic Shaker furniture

The inspiration for this piece is the Lloyds Building in London.

The cabinet has been built inside-out, with the framing and carcase materials in the cheaper timbers visible on the outside, with the interior finished in the more expensive walnut and walnut veneer.
